Rethinking Interiors

A spatial design course focused on culturally rooted, human-centered interior design for residential and commercial spaces. Blending studio work with field research, it explores material intelligence, spatial behavior, and craft integration empowering learners to create functional, mindful, and context-responsive environments.
Objective
To reimagine interior spaces as ecosystems of care, identity, and function moving beyond surface aesthetics to create meaningful, responsive environments. This course integrates cultural codes, local materials, behavioral insight, and spatial psychology to design residential and commercial interiors that breathe, adapt, and endure.
Modules
Exploring how people live, gather, worship, work, and rest across Indian households, shops, and public spaces.
Residential (urban homes, rural dwellings, co-living)Commercial (cafés, craft retail, wellness studios, learning spaces)
Wood, lime plaster, terracotta, khadi, stone, modular boards, light craft materials, and passive climate-responsive solutions.
Designing atmospheres using natural and artificial light, surface finishes, and emotional tones of color.
Understanding user flow, boundaries, transitions, and multi-functional layouts for compact and large spaces.
Custom design of seating, storage, partitions, and fixtures embedded within spatial language.
CAD, SketchUp, for visualization; physical modeling for scale testing.
Studying how people inhabit space through shadowing, interviews, spatial diaries, and post-occupancy analysis.
Incorporating craft practices and artisan-led details into modern spatial systems.
Full-scale design of an interior space (residential or commercial), including material board, spatial narrative, drawings, and mockups, tested with real users.
Outcomes
Participants will design a complete interior space grounded in culture, responsive to human needs, and viable for real-world application. Deliverables include detailed drawings, a process portfolio, and scaled model. Graduates will be equipped to work independently or with studios on spatial design projects rooted in purpose, aesthetics, and social context.

Our selective application process begins with your Statement of Purpose and portfolio showcasing your most distinctive work, followed by a creative aptitude task. Shortlisted candidates are invited to a personal online conversation to ensure alignment with the program’s vision and standards.
FEE STRUCTURE & SCHOLARSHIP
This program is designed as an intensive, high-impact learning journey. The fee is 12,000 INR per month, tailored to the duration you choose.
We believe that exceptional talent and strong commitment deserve to be nurtured. Learners demonstrating outstanding potential reflected in their Statement of Purpose, Portfolio, and Aptitude Interview performance may secure scholarships covering up to 50% of the total fee.
