WORK WITH US
We're always learning. And we need curious minds.
Karyashalla isn't a place where answers flow down. It's a practice where they emerge together through observation, inquiry, and making. If you're the kind of person who asks why before acting, who learns by doing, who believes education happens in the field we think you'd fit here.
We're looking for collaborators, not employees. Learners, not passive participants.
What does it mean to work with us?
You won't sit in a classroom taking notes. You'll be in the field. On construction sites. In artisan workshops. Inside communities. You'll observe how people actually move through spaces, how they use objects, how they make decisions. You'll ask questions the good kind, the uncomfortable kind, the kind that lead somewhere.
You'll prototype. Test. Fail. Learn. Make again.
You'll work alongside Jay, our team, students, artisans, and communities. Not as a hierarchy where knowledge flows one way, but as a collaborative inquiry where everyone teaches and learns. At the end, you won't just have a resume bullet point. You'll have a changed way of seeing, thinking, and making.
The actual work area
We design learning experiences, spaces, and objects through deep ethnographic inquiry into how humans actually behave, move, and find meaning in their worlds. From curricula to furniture to entire ecosystems, we create conditions where wondering becomes systematic discovery, where observation and making don't just spark capability, but catalyze real, measurable social impact, translating insights into artefacts, products, and systems that matter.
A FEW THINGS TO KNOW
We do not offer a typical internship: There's mentorship and structure, but also a lot of self-direction. You'll need to be okay with ambiguity, comfortable with failure, and ready to ask for what you need.
We work across India: Much of our work happens in the field communities, workshops, construction sites. You should be
comfortable with travel, rough conditions, and learning from people whose expertise looks nothing like academic credentials.
We learn from everyone:The wisest people we work with are often artisans, community members, and students who haven't been trained to stay in boxes. Come ready to have your assumptions challenged including by people with less formal training than you.
We move slow when it matters: We don't believe in extractive research or parachute design. Building trust with communities takes time. If you're looking for quick wins, this might not be it.
We believe in reciprocity: We're not helping communities or schools. We're learning with them. If you're comfortable with that unsettling position where you give as much as you take let's talk.

We aren't looking for perfect résumés or polished answers. We're looking for people who notice things, ask questions, and feel compelled to understand the world a little more deeply.
Mail us at hellokaryashalla@gmail.com and tell us what you're curious about, what you're making, observing, questioning, or trying to understand.
If it feels like there's alignment, we'll get back to you.
